Summary
After four successful Global Business Gate Days, Covid19 struck the globe. We had to tweak the concept and on August 28th we launched GLOBAL TALKS.
At a time when most of us were becoming used to “working remotely” the Talks focal point was “Work from home or elsewhere. The workplace – where did, and will, it go?”. In this Talk Professor Christer Karlsson (Copenhagen Business School, and of European Institute for Advanced Studies in Management at Stockholm School of Economics) held a brilliant analysis of the current situation and of what to expect of the future workplace.
His talk is followed by interviews of Urban Strandberg, Göteborgs Universitet, Gert Wingård, Wingård Arkitekter, Johan Trouvé, Västsvenska Handelskammaren, Andreas Göthberg, BRG, Allison Åsblom, Handelsbanken, Natalie Lamkén, Sigma IT Technologies, Marcus Westdahl, EFG and Cai Xiaodi, Nevs, whom all give their personal reflections on the subject.
Intermixed in professor Karlsson’s Talk you will find European students from the International Youth Think Tank sharing their experiences of studying during these outlandish times.
Professor Karlsson’s talk is divided into four parts for easy streaming
The four parts were surrounded by first an introduction and lastly comments from the Covid – 19 small audience. In total 12 persons were gathered to watch professor Karlsson’s talk live and a number of persons viewing the live streaming. Professor Karlsson gave his talk from a remote and Corona safe setting.
Introduction
The moderator Malin Persson welcomes the participants and describes the set-up and programme. She also introduces professor Karlsson and Anette Asklin, Board member of Elof Hansson Holding. The later gives a few introductory comments as to her own thoughts of working remotely.

Part one – Covid-19 push but also pull factors – a new normal
In this part professor Karlsson takes us through the normal, across the current situation and into the “new normal”. He illustrates his thesis of this development with the results of the latest worldwide studies.

Part two – Cases and storytelling & concepts and theories
Professor Karlsson takes us through different perspectives of the situation – and how its viewed by a number of professions and work processes. From here he continues with applying concepts and theories to explain the new situation, ending up with a description of the workplace – what is it really?

Part three – Analysis – Effects on organization, teams, communication
From the start professor Karlsson looks at the pros and cons of office work. He states, “We go to the office to do things and communicate” and continues over the topics of communication, the roles of meetings, networking and, not least, processes. From here he takes the discussion through a few essential perspectives – economic, technology and climate.

Part four – Analysis – Effects on the Office & Visions
In the finishing part we meet the different roles, demands of the office. Also, professor Karlsson goes into the lay-outs, concepts, and planning of the office. Thereby the step to discussing the office going from workplace to hub is short. Professor Karlsson sums up with a just as interesting in-depth analysis of the “Visions of Future Offices” and ends with his knowledgeable and educated thoughts on “Where from Here”.
