In Masthuggskajen, a new district is taking shape that complements the vibrant street life of Järntorget and Långgatorna. It will become a cultural hub, where people live, work and socialize in new spaces. With its roots in trade and transport still evident, Masthuggskajen is emerging as an area for creativity and growth in the heart of Gothenburg.
In Masthuggskajen, Global Business Gate will stand on a new peninsula extending one hundred meters into Gothenburg’s Göta Älv (the river). It represents the first detailed plan within Älvstaden, the Nordics’ largest urban development project. This development will connect the adjacent areas of Järntorget, Långgatorna and Masthugget with Lindholmen across the river.
Its unique waterfront location has a quayside path, with plans for green spaces that include a new district park. The area has excellent transport links by boat, bus and tram, as well as easy access to the RV45 highway.
The development of Masthuggskajen aims to simultaneously preserve and develop its existing culture. It includes the first project for sustainable urban development to be certified by the Sweden Green Building Council’s Citylab.
Masthuggskajen will become a lively and diverse neighborhood with new homes, offices, hotels, parks and entertainment venues. Open ground-floor developments will create dynamic, welcoming environments that pulse with life. The area will see workplaces and new homes, both rental and owner-occupied, complemented by a wide range of leisure opportunities. Elof Hansson Properties and Alecta Properties, who initiated Global Business Gate, are among the companies making a significant contribution to the area’s development.
